Division of labour only becomes truly such from the moment when a division of material and mental labour appears.
Karl Marx, The German Ideology
Today the acolytes of Radical politics have themselves ascended to the heavenly realm of “pure” theory, theology, philosophy, ethics, etc.
From their imitation Ivory towers they pontificate about the moral state of the world, the failures of Capitalism, the oppression of the poor, and the return of the proletarian Messiah.
What form will He take, they enquire?
"From the middle east upon a dinghy", say some.
Yet others say, "he must be made, in our image".
More say, "The Messiah is a Black Woman!" or,
"Women in general!"
"our academics will know!", and "Ooooh Jeremiah Corning!!!", say the rest.
And quietly, alone, in a rare break from work, a young, working class man boots up the computer in his small rented room, and proceeds to express his anger, disappointment and desire for a better future, on the message boards and telecom wires provided by various multi-billion dollar corporations.
64 people agree with him, 4 of them share his thoughts on their own allotted portion of virtual advertising space. He feels a bit more relaxed, "there are lot's of people who think like me" he says to himself, relaxing in front of a video on his favourite streaming service which is owned by one of the World's richest men. He likes to watch a popular streamer who is one of the most popular socialists in the World.
As he hears him talk for hours about the
days news, offering a take that closely aligns with his own, he sees
that 50,000 people have donated a substantial amount of money to his
stream.
Deciding to look into it further he realises his
Socialist idol is one of the Richest Men in America, He wonders what
life would be like living in a nice mansion, in a private community,
with tens of thousands of fans all over the world, ready to give him
their money to hear him speak.
"I wish i was AshanDhabi" he sighs, then thinks of the great software and equipment he could buy with that money.
About all the videos he could make for people to watch about Socialism.
Maybe
he could even start a website and magazine, like those he reads, or a
publishing and distribution company, like the one's he buys his radical
literature from. "That will help the revolution" he says to himself,
then blinks and returns to the show.
"Moreover, it is quite immaterial what consciousness starts to do on its own: out of all such muck we get only the one inference that these three moments, the forces of production, the state of society, and consciousness, can and must come into contradiction with one another, because the division of labour implies the possibility, nay the fact that intellectual and material activity – enjoyment and labour, production and consumption – devolve on different individuals, and that the only possibility of their not coming into contradiction lies in the negation in its turn of the division of labour." ibid
Meanwhile, the streaming company which provides the servers which host
everybody's streams, is facing a large increase in it's energy bills. So
it decides to reform the way it distributes donations to those
streamers. From 75% going to the streamer, to a 50/50 split, this
understandably causes some discord about the tens of thousands of
streamers who "want to make this my career".
Waking up to his
alarm, a young man stretches and takes two painkillers, he shuffles to
the bathroom and picks up his clothes from the floor of a dusty, damp,
and cold bedsit. Having put them on, he struggles to finish a complete
piss and worries about his prostate gland, before rolling a cigarette
and walking out the door.
His shoes have holes in them, and it's
been raining, so he checks his pockets for enough change to catch a bus,
he finds his bankcard and uses that instead. Sitting there half asleep
he hears the conversation of school aged children going on around him.
They talk about their favourite songs, who their favourite singers are,
why they're so great. They collectively digest the previous evenings
entertainment, giggling and squirming while recounting events on the
latest reality show. Another complains that his favourite video game
streamer is leaving the platform because his percentage has been cut.
It's
not fair! agree some of the other boys, "the richest man in the world
hardly needs the money!" says one. "My favourite streamer is in the top
1% of streamers on the platform, and he's allowed to keep his 75%. "Well
my favourite streamer is calling for a boycott in solidarity" says
another, "yeah but what does he have, like twenty regular viewers?" is
thrown from the crowd.
A young lady closes pornhub on her
internet browser and goes to wash her hands, it's 3 am, she stares into
her own eyes reflected in a mirror, and wishes she was sexy enough to be
famous.
In the flat next door the first man is still engrossed
in the Show, his Socialist Idol is now talking about the percentage cut
situation,
"This guy in chat:"drop me 50% of your earnings and I'll
double it in ways Geoff couldn't even dream of..."How bout you subscribe
brokeboy, what the fuck!?
...Motherfuckers in here unsubscribed
telling me that. How bout you gift some subs bitch. And allow other
people to no longer see the adverts?!...
....Is Twits still a viable streaming platform? ...
Listen as it stands i think it still is.
the money grab by the owners is just to balance the increased costs in Energy supply. .
...I will still get 75% of the ad revenues.
For
the rest, those smaller streamers, listen, it's a kick in the teeth.
It's less good than it was before, sure, but it's still good. 50% is
still good.... Thanks to those 3 viewers for those five gifted subs apiece.
THe way I see it right, it was better.
It's not as good, but it's still better.
Because they understand. Listen.
They understand that if they fucking, if they fuck up the revenue structure.
ok? For incoming streamers...
If they fuck up the streamers bagz, to a certain degree, then motherfuckers are gonna move to viewtube.
Cause muthafuckaz know that viewtube has a 70-30 compensate structure..
your taking ad revenue at 70%. and they're taking 30%.
If you're making more money on viewtube why the fuck would you stay on twits, right?...
The moment viewtube becomes profitable to stream, is the moment twits loses it's hold on the market."
He
identifies strongly with the tens of thousands of AshanDhabi's other
viewers, who stay transfixed to his every word. He sighs and again his
mind drifts off to the beautiful food, women, cars and experiences this
young, famous and attractive socialist must enjoy, and says to himself I
wish I could afford to donate some more subscriptions to his audience.
It is self-evident, moreover, that “spectres,” “bonds,” “the higher being,” “concept,” “scruple,” are merely the idealistic, spiritual expression, the conception apparently of the isolated individual, the image of very empirical fetters and limitations, within which the mode of production of life and the form of intercourse coupled with it move. ibid
He get's bored, there are 120k people in the audience now, all of
them chatting, so nothing coherent can even be read. He reopens his
favourite bulletin board, "splatter".
"Cap rents.
Mega tax anyone with multiple properties.
Implement a form of UBI.
Tax the ultra wealthy.
Jail corrupt politicians until death.
Burn trust funds, CEO bonuses, capitalism and marketing.
Throw landlord scum in the sea.
Abolish the fucking stock market.
*** the tories"
He likes that so he resplats it and continues scrolling.
He gets notified that somebody has liked his resplat. He stops scrolling and views his notifications.
He
looks at the profile that liked his resplat. "Lot's of cool stuff. They
believe the same things as me. They share the same newspapers. They are
good."
He sees a splat from a profile called Borava Media. It's a video on viewtube.
The
woman presenting it is incredibly beautiful, so he clicks the link. She
is an upbeat and very well presented young woman from India. He likes
the way she looks over her stack of papers as she reads the headlines
that are relevant to him. He imagines their eyes connecting in that way
from across a bar. "can i buy you a Cuban rum?".
"that line never
worked before, but maybe she would be sophisticated enough to have an
interesting reply. We could talk all night about Che, Palestine,
American imperialism, ahhhh, what a dream."
The video is about a
documentary aired by a TV production company called Al, Jez and Ira,
which provides western audiences with a critical view of the West, from
the far East. The documentary was about the Liber party, and recent
investigations into islamophobia. The host explains "this documentary is
revelatory and the final proof of what we knew all along!
....that
the establishment, the media and the Liber party, conspired to keep
Jeremiah Corning, the leader this country needed, away from the reins of
power"
"Yes!...
That happened".
"The people of the UK stood
up and fought to get socialism elected, and were opposed by the enemies
within. They used absolutely anything to stop Jeremiah."
He goes back to splatter, scrolling he reads,
"Calling
out Occupy Diplomats is not attacking fellow Diplomats. It’s holding
the two brothers accountable for defrauding followers. Using donations
to pay yourself under the false pretense of helping campaigns is fraud,
plain and simple. They are a social media grift."
Lot's of people have commented on that one, most of them are arguing.
"#SocialistSunday Happy #SocialistSunday everyone! If you believe in progressive values hit the like button and then follow everyone else who has liked this post! Be sure to like, resplat and splatter on each other posts. Let’s continue to grow our online community together"
No people have commented on this one, but a few have liked it.He likes the splat, and resplats it after splatting a comment on it.
He sees the beautiful host of borava media again, she's talking about the book "Luxurious, virtual, trans-communisn in space."
"Sounds good."
His eyes start burning so he goes to lie down.
